Ultra High Frequency (UHF) RFID Tags have a much higher read range when compared to LF and HF tags. The high data transfer rate makes UHF RFID tags ideal for applications that need to read multiple items at once, such as boxes of goods as they pass through a door into a warehouse or racers as they cross a finish line.

UHF RFID tags operate using the far-field radioactive coupling principle or back scatter coupling principle.

It’s main characteristics:

  1. Frequencies from 300 MHz to 3 GHz
  2. Read range up to 12 meters (40 feet)
  3. Comply with the global, universally adopted UHF Gen2 standard (EPCglobal Gen2 ISO 18000-63)
  4. Use the 860 to 960 MHz band
  5. Fastest growing segment of RFID technology
  6. Cheapest tag to manufacture
  7. Application of UHF technology spans many markets; including retail, healthcare, life science, pharmaceutical, anti-counterfeiting, transportation, and manufacturing
